artless STUDIO is a Vienna-based design studio creating espresso cups as interior objects. This privacy policy explains how we collect and use data on artless.at.
Newsletter: When you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address to send you product news, restocks, and studio updates. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email or by contacting us. Your email is stored with our email provider and/or as a customer record in Shopify.
Orders: When you place an order, checkout and payment are handled by Shopify. The details you enter at checkout (name, shipping address, email, and payment information) are processed by Shopify and the relevant payment providers to fulfil your order. We receive the order and shipping information needed to send you your cups.
The banner on your first visit has three switches. Necessary is always on: it covers what the shop needs to serve you (cart, checkout, security and the storage of your answer, see Shopify and Cookies below). Help us improve covers Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity. Relevant ads covers the Meta Pixel and, once we advertise there, the Pinterest tag. Help us improve and Relevant ads are off until you switch them on. You can change your answer at any time from the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page. Switching them off costs you nothing here. The shop works identically either way.
Google Analytics (Google Ireland Limited / Google LLC) tells us which pages are visited, how long people stay, and roughly which region they are in. It is loaded only if you switch on Help us improve. Until then the Google code is not requested at all, and Google sees nothing of your visit. Once you switch it on, it sets analytics cookies. Data is processed in the United States on the basis of the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis: your consent (Art 6(1)(a) GDPR). See the Google Privacy Policy.
Meta Pixel (Meta Platforms Ireland Limited) is loaded only if you switch on Relevant ads. It reports to Meta which of our cups you looked at and what you added to the cart, so that we can show our advertising on Instagram and Facebook to people likely to be interested, and see whether an ad actually led to a sale. For this collection and transmission, Meta and artless STUDIO are joint controllers within the meaning of Art 26 GDPR; the essential terms are published by Meta in its Controller Addendum. Data is transferred to Meta Platforms, Inc. in the United States on the basis of the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis: your consent (Art 6(1)(a) GDPR). See the Meta Privacy Policy.
Pinterest tag (Pinterest Europe Limited) is loaded only if you switch on Relevant ads, and only once we have begun advertising on Pinterest. It serves the same purpose as the Meta Pixel, for pins rather than posts. Data is transferred to Pinterest, Inc. in the United States on the basis of the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Legal basis: your consent (Art 6(1)(a) GDPR). See the Pinterest Privacy Policy.
Microsoft Clarity (Microsoft Corporation / Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited) is loaded only if you switch on Help us improve. It records how visitors move through our pages, as heatmaps and anonymised session recordings (mouse movement, clicks, scrolling), so that we can see where the site is unclear and fix it. Clarity uses first- and third-party cookies for this. We do not share this data with Microsoft Advertising. Text you type into forms, including your email address, is masked and never recorded. Data is processed in the United States on the basis of the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Legal basis: your consent (Art 6(1)(a) GDPR). See the Microsoft Privacy Statement.
If a switch is off, the code behind it (Google Analytics and Clarity for Help us improve; Meta and Pinterest for Relevant ads) is never requested. It is not loaded and left switched off. Your browser never asks those companies for it, and they therefore never see that you were here. If you switch a category off again later, the page reloads without it and we remove the cookies those tools set on artless.at.
Our shop, cart, and checkout are provided by Shopify. When you add products to the cart or check out, Shopify processes the data required to operate the store and complete your purchase. See the Shopify Privacy Policy.
Checkout runs on shop.artless.at, a Shopify-operated subdomain of artless.at. Your answer to the banner is carried across to it automatically, so you are not asked a second time: for each category you switch on, the matching services described above may also run during checkout; for each you leave off, or if you do not answer, they do not run there at all. The cart, checkout and payment themselves are necessary for your order and always work.
Your answer to the consent banner is kept in your browser's local storage under artless_consent, so that we do not ask again on every page. It holds your answer and the date it was given, and nothing that identifies you. It expires after twelve months, at which point we ask again.
We use session storage to remember campaign/referral parameters (e.g. UTM tags) during your visit. This data is cleared when you close your browser tab.
Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity (Help us improve) set their analytics cookies only once you have switched on Help us improve. Meta and Pinterest (Relevant ads) set advertising cookies only once you have switched on Relevant ads.
Newsletter subscriptions are kept until you unsubscribe. Order data is kept for seven years, as Austrian tax and commercial law requires (§ 132 BAO). Analytics data is retained by Google for 14 months. Meta and Pinterest retain advertising data according to their own published policies, linked above.
You have the right of access (Art 15), rectification (Art 16), erasure (Art 17), restriction of processing (Art 18), data portability (Art 20) and objection (Art 21), and the right to withdraw consent at any time, for example by unsubscribing from the newsletter. To exercise these rights, contact us at info@artless.at.
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority: Österreichische Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb@dsb.gv.at.
